Himuro Shrine

When the national capital was relocated in Nara, they constructed a pond and room in Kasugano field to keep ice and had important rituals here to divine weather of summer which is crucial for rice cultivation. Today Himuro Shrine stands on this location. The shrine hosts an annual Ice Dedication Festival in which large ice bars (about 1 meter tall) containing carp and sea breams inside will be offered to the deity.
