Tenpyo-an

A variety of sweets using Nara’s yam and Yoshino kudzu (starch) respecting Nara’s local climate and seasons.Names of sweets derive from ancient Man-yo-shu (anthology of poems from the 7th century).

Tenpyo-an’s most recommended item is Yamato Sanzan (sweet red bean paste is sandwiched between a pair of pancakes). Using only fresh ingredients (red beans from contracted farms in Tokachi, Hokkaido, Japanese flour, iodine eggs), only fresh products baked that morning are sold in the shop so as to offer the best taste.
Café space is available on the 2nd floor where visitors can try their sweets.
